Do this, but dont allow people to exchange gold for them so no one gets scammed! Concidering its meant as a "gift" and "free" anyway!

thats the point... people wont buy it from someone else unless they have no brains at all..
this can not be used as an exploit to a scam because everone has commen sense... i hope o_O
This idea could do with a few minor adjustments though probaly.. but it could work..
and people who keep saying it could be exploited by a scam.. give me a good reason why this is a bad idea.. as its a "Free Christmas Gift" or w/e the name could be called.. also with he text under it "Free gift for a friend ingame for good xmas spirit, Double Click to open" somthing lke that.

A little sudo code...
//after clicking trade check the following
if (item = xmas pressy) and (gold > 0)
dont allow trade and display a warning
else if (item = xmas pressy) and (gold = 0)
do allow trade and enjoy
end if
...Wow that was hard!!!

If people insist on being stupid we could always have a dedicated pet style warning

Yeay GWoW2 or whatever. :/

Because sending people christmas presents is a WoW-specific feature, right? I mean like who ever gave wrapped christmas presents before WoW did?
Anyways, not a bad idea, if ANet would be able to add it into the game.

Or they could make so that we can drop these presents with whatever you put in it in towns and outposts, that way you don't actually have to trade with people, making it more fun and easiler.

I don't think there should be a trade rule though. Giving them away for free. Honestly, people who don't look at the name of the time, which obviously wouldn't be "Wintersday Gift" or would actually be dull enough to fall for it deserve every empty box coming to them.

I'm just saying, WoW has it so every little thing that you copy from them that they've copied from elsewhere is going to draw a comparison.

Yet you're the only one who's compared it? I really don't see why anyone would compare this, it's a christmas gift.

I like the idea but the gift needs to show if an item has been added like this.
Would save an empty gift box scammer or needs to be worth 0g or unsalable
as it was ment as a Gift anyway.

Already said this before..
let me make it more clear for you
the name of the present chages when a item is put insde it.
Empty Chistmas Present = No Item Inside
Christmas Present = Item Inside
Also
If someone does try to sell this item with any kind of item inside.. it would take a compleat fool for someone to buy the item.. as its a "Free Gift" to people and can be stated in "Announcements" in the ingae log in page "if" this idea was put into the game this or next xmas.
oh and also to add.. When the christmas present has been opened the item comes out of the box and the box gets destroyed so it cant be used again.

I get it now didn't notice the name change plus shouldn't read posts when tired
It's still a good idea if it's implemented.
Just a concern here but what if someone was buying gold like 500k from a gold selling site
would this be a way to go undetected with the transfer instead of a straight out money transfer and
just drop 100k in each of the 5 Christmas Presents.
Perhaps make it so Gold can't be placed in the present.

why restrain this only to wintersday events? A "gift box" feature would be nice, period.
when crafting, it would take on the name of the crafter :
"Gift from X"
that way you could never mistake it for an "official" GW gift
